Jay Whiffen completed a three-year apprenticeship and has worked within the family business for over 15 years alongside his father, Jim. Following in his father’s footsteps, he now specialises in staircases and balustrades and personally carries out all work undertaken by the company.
Having delivered over 2,000 staircases in his own right, Jay continues to uphold the standards and values the business was built upon, while bringing a fresh perspective, modern techniques and a strong focus on customer service.

Built on Experience Since 1978
Jim began his career as an apprentice joiner in 1978, developing strong foundations in traditional craftsmanship and gaining experience across all aspects of carpentry before specialising in staircases and balustrades.
In 1991, James Whiffen Joinery was established, and since then the company has manufactured and installed over 6,000 staircases across the Wirral and the North West – building a reputation for precision, reliability and quality workmanship.
